Sole Supports Orthotics

Welcome to your healthy and pain-free feet!

Sole Supports orthotics are unique in the marketplace, designed by Dr. Edward Glaser, who was first a mechanical engineer and then a podiatrist.

He realized that the industry standard for orthotics was based on unproven (and incorrect) assumptions and he set about designing an orthotic that actually corrects the way our feet work, holds up our arches and fights the combined forces of body weight and gravity against concrete.

FAQ’S

Q:  I don’t have foot pain, so why does it matter if I have “flat feet”?

A:  Your feet are your foundation.  Their stability and function affect your overall health, not just your feet.  Improper foot alignment has effects that translate all the way up the body, causing knee, hip and spinal misalignment.  Nerve impingement occurs, and even though you may not feel any pain, all the organs and muscles supplied by that nerve experience reduced functioning.  So you can see how globally our feet affect us!

Q:  How do I know if I need orthotics?

A:  There are many clues.  If you have any kind of foot pain or dysfunction that is a good indicator.  This includes plantar fasciitis, bunions, arch pain, heel pain, bone spurs, neuromas, “bunched up” toes (called hammer toes), etc.  All of the common foot problems are usually caused by the lack of enough arch in the foot when we are standing, walking and running.  The combined forces of gravity and our weight are constantly flattening our foot down against the hard surfaces we live on in our modern world.  This puts a lot of stress on the ligaments supporting the arch, ultimately stretching them out and causing the arch to “fall”.  If you have knee problems or low back problems, collapsed arches may be the root cause.  Another way to tell is to look at a pair of shoes you wear often.  If they show wear at the inside or middle of the heel, that indicates incorrect gait and foot alignment.

Q:  What difference will Sole Supports make if I already have bunions, plantar fasciitis or some other foot condition?

A:  The main problem in all of these conditions is over-pronation.  Sole Supports orthotics are engineered to correct the way your foot works, providing the proper balance between pronation and supination.  Wearing your truly custom fitted orthotics can actually reverse most foot problems, allowing you to avoid surgery, reduce pain and regain the health of your feet and body.

Q: Why are Sole Supports different from other orthotics on the market?

A:  Standard custom orthotics are made based on unproven assumptions about how to control the foot.  They commonly use wedges under the heel and forefoot as well as “cast-correcting” the arch, making it lower than it should be.  This means the arch is not fully supported and the device cannot prevent arch collapse.  Why is this done?  Because manufacturers know that the flatter the orthotic, the less chance the user will experience discomfort in the adjustment period.  Unfortunately, this just ends up being an expensive way to get a shoe insert!

With Sole Supports truly custom orthotics, your arch is fully and dynamically supported, meaning that the orthotic is in full contact with your foot during all phases of foot motion.  (Other orthotics leave a gap between the device and your foot as your foot comes up and forward --- not a great way to support it, eh?)

Q:  Any fun foot trivia?

A:  Did you know that we take, on average, 10,000 – 15,000 steps a day?  3 times your body weight passes through your foot with each step!  Your feet, in particular, your inside arches, are your body’s shock absorbers.  They are supported by ligaments that stretch out over time, causing the arch to fall.  We can’t replace the shock absorber, but we can support it, to literally maintain the spring in our step!

Each foot has 26 bones and 55 joints.  It is an engineering marvel, designed to lock and unlock as we walk and run.
